VDLT Hall of Fame

The VDLT Community Hall of Fame has been established to recognize truly special food and wine experiences. Hall of Fame inductees will include restaurants, food and beverage purveyors, recipes and more. Members who send in recommendations that result in enshrinement will earn valuable VDLT wine credits. The Hall of Fame will enhance every members’ opportunity to “live life”.

Katz's Delicatessen, possibly the most famous deli in the world, enters the Hall of Fame as a restaurant and a mail-order source. Their extraordinary pastrami, hot dogs, etc., are available to eat-in, take-out and for overnight delivery.

The Cafe serves lox and bagels to princes and princesses. Potato Russ & Daughters also has a retail store that will enter the Hall of Fame as a supplier of New York’s finest smoked fish and caviar.

Economy Candy is an old-fashioned candy store that’s a don’t miss for adults. They are conveniently located in SoHo, just a few blocks from both Russ & Daughters and Katz’s.

Chief’s butterflied grilled lamb recipe will enter the Hall of Fame’s recipe wing. Make this dish and enjoy the pleasure it gives your guests.

Peter Luger Steak House  serves the very best steak in New York City for Chief since 1965. Great steak and fantastic fried onions. Cash only and reservations are more difficult than tickets to the 7th game of the World Series. They ship their amazing steaks so you can cook them yourself.

Michael Binetti and his terrific staff at Ideal Cheese Shop provide not only fantastic cheese, but very special customer service. Chief has an extra special place in his heart for this shop as he met the Solberts here. We have sent dozens of friends to this shop and they’ve all become repeat customers. Some live out of NYC because they ship.

Dorian and the fish she provides are second to none. If you have dined at Chief’s, you have enjoyed Dorian's Seafood Market. She delivers her meticulously-selected product seamlessly.

Japan Premium Beef (Noho in NYC) is purveyor of Chief’s newest favorite beef called Washugyu. Washugyu is a breed created by crossing Japanese Black Wagyu and the finest American Black Angus. All their meat is special; however, Chief finds their brisket in a world of its own.

This recipe, like most of our recipe videos, will not necessarily make the Hall of Fame, but will be on the website once again. We include this video here to encourage you and also remind you how easy it is to make this brisket that we strongly urge you to buy at Japan Premium Beef.

Forty VDLT members from the metropolitan area and several that flew in from places like Texas and Indianapolis, enjoyed the wonderful Trattoria L'incontro. conveniently located just minutes over the RFK Bridge and thankfully has valet parking. The pasta is as good or better than any the Chief has eaten in Manhattan. The prices are incredibly kind. They have very reasonable corkage fees.

In a few weeks, Ryan (our web developer) will setup for display the VDLT Hall of Fame. Each inductee will have much more information than the thumbnail sketches provided above. We believe that this will become an important asset of our community. We thank you in advance for your commitment to this project.
