Wines from the appellation Vosne-Romanée are the most coveted in Burgundy. No Pinot Noir in the world (some would say no wine period!) can match Vosne’s complex and deep aromatics and flavors. They can mesmerize, seduce and inspire awe.
This being VDLT, we didn’t just find you a Vosne producer, we found one making terrific and distinct wines. Armelle and Bernard, their daughters Nelly Mélissa, Alice and her husband Louis, along with their team of truffle-hunting dogs, comprise this true family-estate.
Today, we are pleased to introduce you to this new VDLT addition. The Rion family produces wines that are the most delicate we have encountered from Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Nuits-Saint Georges and Vougeot (long-time VDLT members will realize that in the past, we have offered these appellations only sporadically at best).
Delicate does not mean wimpy. They have all the terroir, structure and age-worthiness we look for in exceptional Burgundy but somehow, across their range of wines, there is this remarkable elegance that makes them approachable early and just flat-out delicious.
Over the next few months, we expect to introduce up to six of their wines. Today, we start with three and feature the 2016 Vosne-Romanée Dame Juliette. This village wine is named for Bernard’s maman Juliette, who worked the vineyards for six decades. It is a lovely, nuanced wine that so clearly speaks of Vosne. Once you taste Vosne, there’s no looking back!
